It get's so hot in here, so the song goes........ It's funny how words just stick in your head from many years ago on instant recall. I try to think back to the first time I heard it and how many times at completely random intervals it just pops up, enough to make you question your sanity for a moment and then disappears only to keep you awake on a night when you really need to be sleeping, because you have such a big day in the morning. As we were walking through the Lake District in the North of England last week we tried to imagine where we were, a few mature guys, re- writing history, some more than others, very comfortable in our own skin, not out to discover too many new things but not completely dead either. A couple of thousand feet up with a view that would take your breath away, silenced by it's beauty and in awe of it's power. The being hit by a bus tomorrow conversation always comes up and the what ifs, not too many regrets I have to say from the group, not too many changes to days gone by, everybody quite happy with their lot in life. As we ambled back to our hotel, a quick swim to refresh the tired legs and off to the pub we go. Some lively banter, some cheap shots at some personal irritating traits, yes we all have them and then a few ideas for the next twenty five years. A couple of beers later, you could see it clear as day, the flame, alive and well, a little older perhaps but burning just as brightly, all the same.
