Can't Wait Another Minute

Guns and Solutions [ or lack there of ]

Here we go again, another tragedy, another distraught mother. It is obvious that the gun lobby is too strong in the US to have a sensible change to gun ownership, so rather than do absolutely nothing again, I would suggest a debate on requiring insurance on gun ownership. The insurance industry has a great track record on profitability and understands the risks associated with gun ownership. They are also fairly adept at creating acceptable standards and costs that are relevant to the actual cost of ownership and behavior. No system will ever be perfect but the one we have now does not obviously work. The idea would be to create a system where the gun owners would create a more stringent criteria to own a gun because their insurance rates would go up for every incident. The insurance industry while reducing costs and risk that is data driven, would work with the gun owners, lobbyists and politicians, as opposed to continually citing the second amendment and the right to bear arms, which our forefathers would not have been able to foresee, highly automated weapons in large population centers. Could we possibly begin with a 25 % reduction in gun incidents, that would translate into thousands of lives and people not affected by violence. I believe if your heart strings can't be moved then perhaps it's time to take a look at your wallet. Perhaps if the true cost of ownership is borne by the people who want them, then perhaps there might be a system that prevents them from falling into the wrong hands. We need to start somewhere! Please let me know your thoughts as I am at a loss at the indifference shown to defenseless human beings who have no interest at harming any other individuals with raw violence. I am also sure with the brain power available on Linked In that a sensible solution is not far away!
#can'twaitanotherminute
Part of my job as a musician is to write about these things in verse, this was written in response to Sandy Hook, Colorado and Charleston
Can't Wait Another Minute
 Chorus
It will happen sooner than later
To another younger brother
And from one pillar to another
Another distraught mother
From crazies and I did it’s
Can’t wait another minute
From a weeping eye to dry
 Bridge
I came from another planet
To see this earthly plight
I met a girl named Janet
Who walked me through
This thing called Urban Blight
 Verse 1
 There were hookers and ho's
A white girl named Mo
Selling lipstick and rubbers
And a whole lot of trouble
So that John from the burbs
Could get high enough
And then kicked to the curb
That's how he likes it; ROUGH
Verse 2
There was jokers and cash
Some dude named Stash
Who was wheelin and dealin
Like Wall St with feelings
So his clientele
Would always come back
From a trip to hell
When they cut down on the purity
 Verse 3
There were protesters with guns
And God was on the podium
Selling the power and the spirit
Embracing the I did it's
With forgiveness
And a sense of righteousness
We will all relive this
Until the guns have all been melted down

AirCrash Detectives - The Story - Rose Tinted Glasses

The bill read like this Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Larry Wallis, Wreckless Eric and Micky Jupp, April 04, 1978. A shy 14 year old who couldn't see very well, liberated by two strokes of the keyboard on Watching the Detectives and Lipstick Vogue. I said to myself, I want to be that guy, alas no chops for that, but not a bad first concert though, I have to be content with writing and singing. Cheers Steve!
Fast forward to July of 2015 and the impending release of Shock Therapy on August 7th 2015. We are playing at Southland Ballroom in Raleigh. All welcome.
The biggest problem facing an artist is distinguishing themselves from a crowd. The internet has created a double edge sword in that anyone can post their music to one of a thousand sites and hope someone has more than a 3 second attention span to have a listen. Realizing the problem, AirCrash Detectives will resort to shameless self promotion and as many gimmicks as we can think of to promote our record. Our first idea was to produce a pair of Rose Tinted Glasses to go along with the song, see the picture above, they will be available at our release party, the first 250 will be asked to wear them during the night as we make our video for release in October 2015. We ask that you take a selfie and post it to our FB wall, which has taken on a life of it's own. You may stop by our office at 6001 Chapel Hill Road, Suite 106, Raleigh, NC, 27607 for a free pair of Rose Tinted Glasses before the release date.
The second idea we had was to create an animated video, that will play on our you tube channel, while you listen to the songs, we have posted the first minute just to get some feedback and see how it presents itself, music will follow later, we think it will be very soothing and would also make a great screen saver. Let me know if you would like this and I will send you a link. It will eventually run for 4 minutes and do some very cool stuff. The folks at Carolina Reprographics are doing an amazing job.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzSSe2iiYYQ
The third idea is to create a game app with the music embedded into it, to my knowledge this has not been done before. This poses several problems, but I know their are some very talented people out there who can solve this for us. Shock Therapy - The Album - The Game
The game app and the embedding of the music are not the problem, it will be the delivery system. So if any of you folks out there from Apple, Google or Microsoft want have a chat feel free to get in touch, we will have a preview ready 07/15/15
These ideas are created and sponsored by the very talented folks at Telepathic Graphics Inc, they love a challenge and enjoy the thinking outside the box. The keys to success are always getting the buy in, first internally and then externally. It's easy to gauge the first part and then we'll wait and see if Shock Therapy becomes a world beater!
Did I mention the music? The folks over at Osceola Studios in Raleigh did a great job on the production, a special thanks to Chad Lister and Dick Hodgin for their patience and attention to detail. Also thanks to our Special Guest on keyboards Steve Nieve who added some great moments to the record. You may have a sneak peak at the link below, you may download the AirCrash Detectives music app there, it will be released August 7th 2015 and be available through iTunes, Spotify, Amazon etc. Your feedback and comments are most welcome. See you August 7th 2015

Daddy, I Want A Pony

Verse 1
She calculates the temperature with her finger in the air
And she shortens up her halter top so we all need to stare
She walks a fine line between good taste and no taste at all
The silver spoon is tarnished but she needs a curtain call
Chorus

The odds are stacked against the house
And I don't stand a chance, see
When a girl bends her mind like this
I can't see the enemy

She said, DaddyI want a pony
It will show me how much you love me
He said, when is enough ever enough
How did I get covered up
In all this stuff?

Verse 2
Never short on confidence she works it til she's intimate
She knows what she wants and worse she knows how to get it
The only thing that's coming between her and her thoughts
Is the 3 inch heels she dreamed about while swinging on the porch
Verse 3
The trickle down effect it ain't working with this kind of mind
It's a cautionary tale that should be told to all mankind
When the girl knows what she wants, she won't have no patience
And lord help the one who gets in the way of her salvation

The Great Ocean Road [ A song for S&J ]

Verse 1

They say that California, will work all your senses
Or down Louisiana, where the side show never ends
Florida could relieve you of all your intellect
And in a New York minute, what could you expect
Almost anything

Chorus
So I hope you don't think of me
When you are driving with the rag top down
As far away from crazy, as it gets

Clear your mind of everything
And lighten up the load
One elbow out the window
And let her go
Here we go baby
My heart's wide open
On the Great Ocean Road

Verse 2

North Carolina will always wait for you
It has the patience, that Virginia never had
Georgia wants to be like everybody else
I love them even when their mad
At almost anything

M8

It doesn't matter where you go
All the faces look the same
And some of them you'll recognize
They just changed their names

I Like The Way The Sun Comes Up Here

Verse 1

Take me to the edge on the ocean side
I like my eggs on the sunny side
Everyone dies in a homicide
Once in a while you got to pay for the ride
Bridge

Can't we put aside our differences
And listen to, what conscience
We have left
Or have we lost it all in our selfishness
As the rich get richer on the
Emptiness

Chorus

I like the way the sun comes up here
The elements are less inclement
And I fear less my own fears
But I won't claim that I am innocent
Verse 2

I am standing of the ledge of my own life
I wrestle with it with all my mite
Can't live in the darkness every night
Without a way to find the light

Bridge

Can't we put aside our differences
And listen to, what conscience
We have left
Or have we lost it all in our selfishness
As the rich get richer on the
Emptiness
Chorus

I like the way the sun comes up here
The elements are less inclement
And I fear less my own fears
But I won't claim I am innocent

M8
Round here, they don't get my jokes
But that's alright we me and my dog
I really really kinda like these folks
It's like sleeping in a hammock or
Falling off a log

At 9.29

Verse 1

Her father was a soldier
And her mother drank herself
From one boyfriend to another
To try to cure the loneliness
Bridge
But it's hard to do the right thing
When wrong comes natural
Every day there is a tragedy
That scares us all to hell

Chorus

She wasn't bad inside
She had not lost her mind
She just saw things differently
At 9.29

Verse 2
She killed them with her kindness
And put flowers in her hair
Always showed a little more skin
It was the clothes she had to wear

Bridge
But it's hard to do the right thing
When wrong comes natural
Every day there is a tragedy
That scares us all to hell
Chorus

She wasn't bad inside
She had not lost her mind
She just saw things differently
At 9.29

Verse 3
She lay across the front yard
Facing toward the the sky
It was still to light to see the stars
She was headed for the great white light

Rose Tinted Glasses

Verse 1

The news goes unreported
On this side of oops a daisy
You will find him out of sorts
Most days when he is drinking
He imagines her contorted
Like the girl from Circ de Soleil
I can't wait for her retort
When she finds out what he's been thinking

Chorus

Would it not be great, to be the light fantastic
Ignore all their mistakes, even if it's catastrophic
We love it in excess, in extravagance
And like the mother of a great romance
It moves as slow as molasses
Because I like the world and will only look at it
Through
Rose Tinted Glasses

Verse 2

Are all your skeletons jangling
In a way that will make you crazy
Giving the appearance of
Stability, when you're left dangling
The threads are barely held together
With what is left of your soul
Tinted by the strangest colors
A rose is a rose but for you

Take Your Place In The Sun

Verse 1

In the bedrooms of America
There is a spy on the wall
He has one hand on hysteria
And the other on a call
Bridge
Who wrote this mystery [ anyway ]
Who bought your silence?
The irony of ironies
Cost all your innocence

Chorus

50 Shades of Grey,
On her coffee table,
You have been waiting for this day
Ready, willing and able
Take your place
In the sun
Verse 2
In the bedrooms of America
Oh how the mighty fall
Obsessed in her erotica
This art has been restored
Middle 8
A flash of light
In the mind's eye
I sense her fight
To be free

I see her face
In the half light
She appears to be
Satisfied

Hit That Thang

Verse 1

There are 7 seconds left
To try to win the game
And the coach draws up the play
And calls out your name

Bridge

What you gonna do boy
What you gonna do
What you gonna do girl
What you gonna do

Chorus

You gotta hit that thang

Verse 2

You finally got the girl,
To tell you it is time
Can you rock her world
Like it's  2099 [twenty ninety nine ]
Bridge

What you gonna do boy
What you gonna do
What you gonna do girl
What you gonna do

Chorus 2

You gotta hit that thang
There's no pressure on
You gotta hit that thang
There's no pressure on

M8

And Old Mister Hubbard
Sat in his cupboard
Drinking a bottle of rye
Wondering
What would have been
If his hand stayed steady
That night

Verse 3

The whole world watching
From Rio to Tibet
There is no time to think
We don't live to regret
This is the shot that will never be forgotten
That's what the man with microphone said
What you gonna do boy
What you gonna do
You gotta hit that thang!

Magnets

Verse 1

I was hit by a meteor
I suffer from concussion
What you want that pleasure for
Is it all of this or nothing

Chorus
Pulling me this way and pulling me that
Every sucker's grinning like a Cheshire Cat
Something coming over me, something coming over me
Magnets, Magnets

Verse 2

When the French say tricolor
And it's a badge of honor
A mother in Angola
Cries for her forgotten

M8

Everything that we forget
Someone else remembers
They are stuck like a magnet
To the burning embers

Verse 3

I can see the peace in her
It's always worth discussing
Before all the shock and awe
Don't make me want to trust you

This Day Will Be Different

Verse 1

I am in the middle of a contradiction
And this love that I have, it is a sweet addiction
Feelings, feelings, that I can't explain
Will you be my girl?
Or is it all too strange?

Verse 2

In times of trouble, will you be alarmed
In the darkness of the night, will you find my open arms
Questions, questions, I try to avoid
Is this armmageddon
Or just another ploy

Bridge

Say what you mean, don't sugar coat it
Don't exaggerate,
Give it to me straight.
Chorus

This day will be different
There's no room left for sentimental feelings
When the booby trap explodes
And the floor is on the ceiling
My heart gets switched to overload
As the clouds and smoke are clearing
I told you that,
This day will be different

Glow

Verse 1

Tired of same old
Same old routine
Think of a place now
You have never been

The same ugly faces
You have to see
Gaze at a statue
And all it's beauty

Bridge

When you wake up today
Why don't you say

Chorus

I am going to take the bull by the horns
What could go wrong
Do something you don't know
And watch yourself
Glow

Verse 2

There is a picture
Hangs on your wall
Of a wide eyed young boy
Who once had it all

And if you should squander
The gift that you got
Or wallow in pity
Like all the have nots

M8

You don't have to jump from a plane
In the sky
Or swim across a great big ocean
All you got to do is try

Sweet Christine

Verse 1

One sunny day, in the middle of May, I was clinging to my dream
That I had a line and the rhythm and rhyme to get to sweet Christine.
She ran out before school was out, saying that she couldn't cope
But I knew fine she was right for me and I never gave up hope
Chorus

ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh sweet Christine
I have been all around the world, tell me where you been?
She is the prettiest girl that I have ever seen
Keeps me awake in my dreams
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh sweet Christine
They say love is blind
99.9 percent of the time
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh sweet Christine
Verse 2

Well her father was an engineer and he moved away to work
If you have never been in love before you won't know how it hurts
He always said I was no good, though I tend not to agree
Blood's been spilled, over broken hearts, but that's just history

Save Me From Your God

Verse 1

I could send you flowers on a Tuesday afternoon
Or while away the hours, like a sunny day in June
I got all these questions from days that have gone by
But you can't fight the fire if you are covered up in lies

Bridge

Will you take me by the hand and lead me from a world so cruel
Or take me to a place I know where everything is beautiful

Chorus

I said, a hey hey hey, I said a hey hey hey
I think you should pray for me
I said, a hey hey hey, I said a hey hey hey
I think you should say it for me
I think you should save me tonight

Verse 2

You can stand in prison and tell me that I am wrong
Or modify your sentence so that it won't be so long
You have your convictions and I am proud of you
A cross, a mosque or elephants, you are free to choose

Shock Therapy

Verse 1

It's a shame that you don't know
That somebody stole you soul
While you were sleeping
Such a long time ago
They got inside your thoughts
When you said that you couldn't be bought
Must have been while you were dreaming of
The grandiose

Bridge

Now I can't live within
My own skin
I don't know who I am
But I do the best that I can
Chorus
Electricity
Was applied to my body
Because they thought I was mad
They thought that I was crazy
And I might be
Shock, shock, shock therapy
As long as it takes
I am going to find me

Verse 2

Knowing what you know now
Would you do the same thing
All over again
It's the definition of insanity

That's the trouble with your mouth
Nothing makes sense when it comes out
At least a mile in these shoes
How much does that cost

Dear Old Henry's Song

 Verse 1

The end of an era, comes to a close
Where you get off, nobody knows
I'll set the table, a place for us all
There's no replacement, when one us falls

Chorus

To those of you left, behind
I would like a little more time
You know I won't be long
I have to finish Old Henry's song

Verse 2

The barmaid loves an unquenchable thirst
I would say thank you for his humor first
You can all cry through the tears and the pain
I am here now but never again

M8

If there's a chance for one more dance
While we're singing to Steely Dan
On a plane to the south of Spain
Then back to the Clyde, in the cold rain

Verse 3

The end of an era, comes to a close
Where you get off, nobody knows
I'll set the table, a place for us all
There's no replacement, when one us falls
